PING PONG PLAYING PENGUIN HIT FOR CARLSBERG
The pressure of film sequels is always high. One year after the success of the highly realistic soccer-playing Squirrel, now world famous through YouTube and the cinema, Carlsberg Sport wanted to continue the campaign of sporty
animals. "We have made highly realistic and believable animations of animals created 100% in 3D before. But Adam Hashimi and the team felt this spot required us to work in a new way," explains VFX supervisor Jonas Drehn. As with the squirrel-film, Duckling worked with Bacon director Adam Hashimi and the &Co creative team to find the right approaches, animation, camera and look style for this spot.
"When we created the Carlsberg Squirrel the idea was two teenage kids filming the action at a distance. This time we wanted it to feel like the characters of the film had a semi-professional video camera," explains Jonas. The Duckling VFX-team wanted to give the film a dash of "eighties analog video machine". To get this look, they went back in history. "We digged up an old Umatic video deck from the basement and had it installed next to the flame in order for us to archive the real analog video look," says Jonas.
